NETBALL: THE plush new Oldham Leisure Centre received the thumbs-up from Oldham Netball Club after a 67-39 victory over the Blades.
Coach Debbie Hallas was delighted with the club’s new home. This was the club’s first senior match at the venue since it opened last month. She said: “It was fantastic to play at our new venue. The facilities are excellent and they really looked after us.
“We started slowly, but grew into the game with some great fast-flowing netball. There were so many good performances. Jodie Gibson and Abby Tyrrell came on with great impact, while for consistency Kerry Almond continued her great start to the season.”
The Blades forced Oldham into uncharacteristic errors in the early stages, but Oldham hit back with Emma Dovey and Almond getting to grips with the Blades’ mobile shooters, snapping up any loose balls and rebounds.
Leading 14-12 at the first break, changes spurred Oldham further and by the half the score was 27-19.
After more changes for the third quarter, Oldham added 20 goals to their tally to make it 47-29.
Oldham continued to hold sway in the final quarter, with some fantastic play through the court and solid defence.
