DUNCAN Hadfield took pride of place for Oldham during the inter-league weekend.

Playing for Oldham ‘A’, he produced the performance of the day in beating the North-West 2015 Champion of Champions holder Jonathan Taylor.

The borough defeated the Wirral and East Lancs, drew with Manchester and went down 4-2 to a strong Wilmslow outfit.

Hadfield was assisted by strong displays from Paul King and Simon King, who was making his debut for the Oldham league representative team.

Meanwhile, the Oldham first team had mixed fortunes in a strong Lancashire and Cheshire League Premier Division clash.

They started well in beating Preston 5-1, managed a 3-3 draw with Manchester, but went down to defeats against powerful Liverpool and Chester teams. Nick Mooney won five of his eight matches for Oldham.

There were some tight matches in Division One of the Oldham and District Table Tennis League — and none more so than the Unison ‘A’ versus Werneth ‘A’ relegation battle which ended in a 5-5 draw.

Man of the match was Werneth’s Mick Pellowe, who claimed a treble and combined with Mandy Winskill to win the doubles after being 2-0 down. Winskill also won a singles, while all the Unison team of Andy Hey (two), Steve Collins (two) and Mick Brierley contributed.

Hosts Birley Moss took on Honeywell ‘C’, with the former winning 7-3. But the scoreline could have been reversed.

Kyan Chin won three, Kal Ahmed two and Miles Benjamin one for Birley Moss, with Dave Cheetham (two) and Rob Carter replying for Honeywell.
