Water way to finish!

ROYTON Road Runners travelled to the Lake District for the final event of the club’s season, the popular Derwentwater 10-mile race.

Although most Royton prizes had already been decided, an impressive 74 club members took part in the race.

Leading the way, fittingly, was Phil Marsden, who was already confirmed as the new club champion for 2015.

He crossed the line in 20th place, second V40. His time of 1 hour, 0 minutes, 36 seconds was particularly impressive on a challenging course given that, like several other Royton participants, he was racing on only a week after taking part in the Snowdonia Marathon.

Marsden was followed by Dave Peart (1:02:06) in 27th place, which ensured that Peart retained the club’s V45 title for the third year in succession.

Next to finish was Shane Reading (1:02:41), completing his 48th consecutive club race – a record-breaking sequence dating back to 2013.

Three other club members - Eloise Bartlett (2:01:22), Mike Doolan (1:31:05) and Rochelle Evans (1:17:54) – completed the full set of 17 club championship races in 2015.

It was a particularly memorable race for two members of the Royton Road Runners committee.

President June Allingan (1:44:56) claimed the FV70 prize in her 100th competitive appearance, while chairman Bryan Lawton (1:09:45) was presented with race number 50 and a cake as he ran on his 50th birthday, managing to beat his son Ben (1:25:23) in the process.
