Angling: JEAN Steel of Oldham Owls celebrated first place in the OAPs and disabled match on Partridge Lakes’ Covey Canal venue.

She employed maggot down the track for 63lb 15oz of f1s to 3lb. Steve Kelly was some way adrift in second place, but still bagged a noteworthy 55lb 6oz.

Another Oldham Owls member, Rochdale-based Martin Kershaw, continued his good run of form at Partridge Lakes by winning the latest OAPs and disabled match. Kershaw had a 57lb 1oz net made up of mostly f1s on maggot across and down the track. Harry Fairhurst was second with 42lb 12oz.

JOHN Lees swept aside the opposition in the latest of the Medlock Bridge AC open matches on the Park Lake. He weighed in seven big f1s and a skimmer on the tip and maggot for a match-winning 19lb 1oz.

Runner-up Bob Harrison used the seven-metre pole and maggot approach for 7lb 10oz of roach, perch and skimmers.

KEN Power is on a roll. The Tri-Cast Highfield rod bagged another win in the Fields Farm Fishery Thursday open, registering 32lb 6oz of chub, goldfish, tench, skimmers, perch and roach, first on the method feeder approach before switching to the 11-metre pole and chopped worm. Pete Clements opted for the method feeder and meat for a second-best 16lb 7oz of carp.

I CAN recommend the Mirfield Canal, which is throwing up plenty of roach and perch. Though Wednesday’s open was hit by heavy rain, weights were still good. The match was won by a former team-mate, Colin Smith (Matrix Halifax), who had 6lb 4oz of roach and perch on bread punch and maggot from the peg by the road bridge. Rod Crispin was second with 5lb 12oz of mostly roach.

TODMORDEN AS are staging a members six-match silver fish-only series, starting on Sunday, November 22. The matches will be alternated between Croft and Townhouse, with the final on Sunday, January 17.
