Angling: TOMMY Smith was in the money when he won the latest Twingate AC OAP match on the club water, with his three carp weighing 6lb 9oz.
Tommy Graham was next, and three more carp made up his second-placed 5lb catch.
FRED Prudham took first place in the latest of the Medlock Bridge AC Saturday open matches with an 11lb 7oz net that included five good f1s, four of which were caught on the pole and maggot and one on the tip.
Bob Harrison was second with his 6lb 1oz net made up of one decent chub and lots of small roach and skimmers which fell to nine-metre pole and maggot.
JOHN Jones (Garbolino Elton ) took first place in the Partridge Lakes open match with the end peg of 100 giving him victory with 75lb 10oz of f1s and carp taken on pole, pellet and maggot.
Chris Weeder Jr was second with 72lb 5oz
Partridge was also profitable for another local angler, Martin Kershaw (Oldham Owls), as he put 44lb 15oz into his net to win an OAP and disabled match.
IT is with regret that I report the death of Mick Molloy. Mick was a regular competitor and winner of park open matches and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
CHRIS Oliver continued his good run in the Todmorden AS members-only matches by winning the latest on Croft with 45lb 6oz of carp. Rob McKendry was second with 33lb 14oz of carp.
MY week’s fishing was mixed as I should have won the Wigan AA 90-peg open but couldn’t fit a pike of around six or seven pounds into my landing net, which cost me over £300!.
On a brighter note, I qualified with my partner, Shaun Paddon, for the Angling Trust National Pairs final fished on the Birmingham and Fazeley Canal.
Due to work commitments, we didn’t know we would be able to fish the match until the last minute, but we finished eighth and would have done even better had I not lost two big perch - which cost me the individual title and fourth place in the pairs. When I considered the calibre of anglers fishing this national final I have to say we did very well, as did Tri-Cast Rochdale pair Tony Price and Adam Jagger who finished 10th.
