Town targeting a Shield victory

FOOTBALL: ROYTON Town will be hoping to get back to winning ways after three defeats when they play Prestwich Heys in the last 16 of the Lancashire FA Amateur Shield at the Oldham Academy North tomorrow (2pm).
After surging to the top of the FBT Manchester League Premier Division after just a few weeks, recent results have come as something of a shock.
The side missed Michael Moss, an integral part of the Town set-up with his work ethic and goalscoring record as a striker. Moss has suffered from a groin strain and club officials are keeping fingers crossed he will be fit to play against unbeaten Premier Division leaders Prestwich tomorrow.
Town reached the last 16 stage of the Shield with a bye in the first round and a penalty shoot-out victory over Elton Vale.
In the league’s top flight, Uppermill, still searching for their first three-points haul of the season, entertain Stockport Georgians at Churchill playing fields (2pm), while Springhead, in second place, host Old Alts at Ashfield Crescent (2pm).
Last weekend’s action saw Avro continue their impressive campaign in the Premier Division so far with a 3-2 away victory at Hindsford.
Royton were sunk 4-1 at Atherton Town, while second-placed Springhead lost by the only goal at Manchester Gregorians.
Chadderton’s second string drew 4-4 in the Division One clash at Leigh Athletic, while Hollinwood crashed 4-1 at Beechfield United.
Uppermill’s second string secured an impressive 4-0 Division Three win against Atherton Town ‘A’.
