Football: HEYSIDE moved to the top of Huddersfield League Division One thanks to a 5-2 home victory against bottom side Holmfirth Town.
The hosts fell behind early on but equalised when midfielder Johnny Pauley saw a weak shot squirm under the visiting goalkeeper. Pauley then assisted full-back Danny Cashin for him to fire home his first goal of the season.
On half-time Mark Hopwood stretched the lead with a smart finish from inside the box. Captain Reece Hursthouse smashed the ball home from close range to make it 4-1.
After Holmfirth hit back to score their final goal, Hopwood grabbed his second of the game and 10th of the season to wrap up a well-deserved win.
Elsewhere in the top flight, Diggle were held 2-2 at home by Newsome.
OLDHAM Hulmeians continue to fly high at the top of the Lancashire Amateur League First Division, beating Whitworth Valley 5-2 in their latest match.
LAL top flight side Chaddertonians were knocked out of the Lancashire Amateur Cup, 2-0 at Milton.
TWO local sides crashed out of the Lancashire and Cheshire League’s Rhodes Cup competition, both at home. Oldham Victoria were beaten 7-4 by High Lane after extra-time. The game had ended 3-3 after 90 minutes.
AFC Oldham were sunk 3-1 by visiting Trafford United.
