Football: HEYSIDE moved to the top of Huddersfield League Division One thanks to a 5-2 home victory against bottom side Holmfirth Town.

The hosts fell behind early on but equalised when midfielder Johnny Pauley saw a weak shot squirm under the visiting goalkeeper. Pauley then assisted full-back Danny Cashin for him to fire home his first goal of the season.

On half-time Mark Hopwood stretched the lead with a smart finish from inside the box. Captain Reece Hursthouse smashed the ball home from close range to make it 4-1.

After Holmfirth hit back to score their final goal, Hopwood grabbed his second of the game and 10th of the season to wrap up a well-deserved win.

Elsewhere in the top flight, Diggle were held 2-2 at home by Newsome.

OLDHAM Hulmeians continue to fly high at the top of the Lancashire Amateur League First Division, beating Whitworth Valley 5-2 in their latest match.
