ANGLING: JAMES Cantello, of Tri-Cast Highfield, continued his great run of form with victory in the Saturday open on the Trent and Mersey Canal at Northwich.

He had 6lb 3oz of small roach on bread punch early on, before switching to squatt and pinkie to keep bites coming. Gordon Tennant was drawn on the end peg, where he set out his stall for perch with chopped worm, and he was rewarded with two, plus smaller samples for a 5lb 7oz net.

CHRIS Oliver took first place in the latest Todmorden AS members-only match on Townhouse.

Using the pole and pellet, he tempted 40lb 5oz of carp.

Second on the day was Adam Kitson, with chocolate boilies tempting 38lb 3oz of carp.

EMPLOYING maggot on the long pole, Chris Woodrup landed the latest of the Socials AC matches on Tyle Lodge. He caught a level 27lb of chub and roach to deny Dave White, who used maggot at 10 metres for a 17lb 6oz of roach and skimmers.

IT was tough going on the Alexandra Park Lake for the latest of the Medlock Bridge AC Saturday open matches.

Winner Gary Schofield needed just four decent f1s and a few bits on the pole and maggot for a 9lb 3oz net. His effort was more than double that of next man Bob Harrison, who weighed in skimmers and some bits for a 4lb 8oz bag.

CHRIS Pickering dominated proceedings in the latest Eight Bells AC match on High Heyes fishery.

Tipping 56lb 8oz on to the scales, he scooped the pools money and the bonus peg cash. Runner-up Dave Eastwood had 25lb 8oz, while Matt James netted 23lb 3oz for third place.

I STRUGGLED from a poor draw in the first round of the Cheshire Individual League series on the Llangollen Canal near Whitchurch. With around 50 fish, my bag weighed 2lb 11oz. In contrast, Michael Manson (Browning) had a cracking day’s fishing, with big roach of more than a pound and some decent-sized bream on bread punch then caster later on for a massive 26lb 15oz.

CARL Blurton, of Maver NW Black, topped the second round of the Pennine Winter League on the Todmorden AS lengths of the Rochdale Canal. Using pole with a variety of baits, he had 18lb 1oz catch made up of six bream and 2lb of bits. Second-best John Sedgewick (Tri-Caster Calder) returned a 12lb 4oz net, which also included bream and skimmers on the same method and baits.
