GOLF:
DAVE Whitworth shot a superb 72-9-63 to win the Hall Cup, a major at Crompton and Royton.
Second was Michael Healey (82-18-64), followed by Mike Shaw (68-2-66). Kris Sutcliffe won the best gross prize with a fine 69.
Meanwhile, a four-way, 18-hole play-off will decide the destination of BLACKLEY’S Autumn Cup.
Michael Aikenhead (74, 70, 69), Michael Chappell (69, 73, 71), Alex Hughes (73, 68, 72) and Scott Alan Salway (70, 69, 74) all finished level on 213 after three rounds of golf.
ASHTON ‘B’ completed the double in dramatic fashion in the league play-off final against Stamford ‘B’ at Crompton and Royton.
Having won the cup last month and gone through the league season with a 9-1 winning record, they were pushed all the way by their Tameside neighbours.
The match was delicately poised at 2-2, and the final game went to the fourth extra hole before Graham Andrew and league secretary Brendan Kennedy triumphed for the Danny Andrew-captained side.
