FOOTBALL: AVRO secured a terrific 4-1 victory at Boothstown in the FBT Manchester League Premier Division.
Meanwhile, there was a dramatic win for Royton Town in the opening round of the Lancashire FA Amateur Shield. Hosting Elton Vale, Town eventually secured progression thanks to a 5-3 penalty shoot-out after the match had ended all square at 2-2.
Both Uppermill and Springhead crashed out of the West Riding FA Challenge Cup at the first hurdle.
Springhead went down 5-3 at Rimington, while Uppermill crashed 5-1 at Farnley Sports.
There was mixed news for local sides in the West Riding FA Challenge Trophy.
Springhead reserves lost 3-1 at Great Preston, but Uppermill’s second XI went goal crazy, thumping Sutton 16-0.
