WATERHEAD Warriors club chairman Mick Slicker believes Kevin Sinfield will be the toughest of acts to follow as he leaves rugby league after Saturday’s Super League grand final at Old Trafford.

Oldham-born league legend Sinfield (35), who began his career at Waterhead aged 10, will make his last appearance for Leeds Rhinos against Wigan Warriors in the game’s showpiece match.

After more than 500 appearances for the Rhinos, ‘Sir Kev’ will bid to win his seventh Super League champions’ medal before he switches codes to play for Yorkshire Carnegie RUFC from next season.

Waterhead chief Slicker, who just missed signing Sinfield in the mid-Nineties when he was on the coaching staff at Halifax, said: “Kevin’s such a top bloke. Nothing’s too much trouble for him and whenever we ask him down to the club to help the kids or get involved, he’s only too happy to come.

“His all-round attitude to the game is first-class, and that’s been the case throughout his professional career. Both on and off the field he is going to be a tough act to follow.

“He’ll be honoured and remembered in the same way as Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes were when they stopped playing.

“Kevin has always been an outstanding player. He stood out in every age group he featured in as a youngster. There’s no edge to him either. He’s just a great lad.”

Sinfield has represented England 27 times and Great Britain 14 times. He received the MBE in 2014.
