Teenage starlet Danny made of ‘Wright’ stuff

Danny Wright . . . represented the North of England.
THERE were mixed emotions for trainer Ben Lancaster when three of his young amateur prospects took to the ring.
Nineteen-year-old Failsworth starlet Danny Wright was in terrific nick as he took an impressive victory for a North of England team against Ireland at Bury ABC.
Student Wright, a former national youth champion, defeated Luke Morgan following three tough rounds.
Lancaster said: “Danny boxed really well, but it was a really hard fight for him. It was a good, competitive contest.”
North-West champion Joe Eko (22) got the better of Northside’s J Hamed at the novice area qualifiers at the Lighthouse venue in Eccles, but 18-year-old Tom Rafferty was stunned as he lost out to a controversial judge’s decision in the final of his weight category to Metro’s S Azimi at the same event.
Lancaster added: “I was really proud of Tom because he fought well to reach the final, winning two earlier bouts. He was on the wrong end of a bad decision in the final. People ringside were stunned when the decision went to his opponent.”
