Honour in defeat for gutsy Hollinwood

RUGBY:
HOLLINWOOD put in a terrific peformance away to Crofton Cougars in the Pennine League’s Andrew Bennett Memorial Trophy.
Despite players carrying injuries, they fought to the last minute before succumbing 30-24.
Alistair Williams crashed over for Hollinwood’s opening try before Crofton hit back with a brace of converted efforts.
Not to be done, Peter Davies produced a dazzling try, goaled by Skilling, who also added a penalty after Crofton went in again. Another long distance score by man-of-the-match Davies and Skilling conversion in the early stages of the second half levelled things at 18-18.
In a game that swung to and fro, Crofton went in again only for Williams to barge over the line. Skilling kicked the goal. But the Wakfield outfit eventually clinched the spoils.
WITH Mirfield ‘A’ unable to raise a team, Higginshaw were handed a bye in round one of the Supplementary Cup. Higgy instead entertained Cutsyke Raiders from Pennine League Division Two in a friendly and impressed with a 20-12 win.
