Mossley on the march in Trophy

MOSSLEY eased through to the next stage of the prestigious FA Trophy competition thanks to a 1-0 home victory against Harrogate Railway Athletic.

The only goal came just 15 minutes from the end when substitute Mike Fish’s low cross was inadvertently diverted into his own goal by Athletic defender Alex Low.

The victory earned the Lilywhites £2,500 in prize money and a daunting-looking first round proper trip to Evo-Stik League Premier Division table-toppers Darlington 1883 at the end of the month.

Mossley return to league action on Saturday when they face the long trip to big-spending Scarborough Athletic.

Meanwhile, the Lilywhites have signed experienced former Ramsbottom United striker and manager Jon Robinson (32).

Robinson has also played for Salford City, Flixton, Bacup Borough and New Mills.

CHADDERTON came from behind before beating Widnes 4-3 in a thrilling North-West Counties League First Division clash.

Dillon O’Connor and James Curley handed Chaddy a 2-0 lead inside the opening quarter-of-an-hour, but by half-time they found themselves behind.

Efforts from Ronnie McCarthy, Daniel Lomax and Luke Edwards turned the game on its head.

Curley’s second goal made it 3-3 shortly after the restart, before veteran Gareth Morris pounced with a neat finish to win the game for Chaddy in the 82nd minute.

Chaddy, who reached the play-offs last season before losing out in the semi-finals, are now seventh in the table.

They travel to St Helens Town on Saturday.
