FOOTBALL: UNDEFEATED Shelley, top of the Huddersfield League Division One at the start of the day, gave Heyside their toughest game of the season in a tight 1-1 draw at Crompton House.
The visitors took the lead in the 15th minute when a long ball down Heyside’s right caught the defence flat-footed and the striker peeled off before calmly slotting past ’keeper Brian Lord.
The local side, unbeaten at home in the league in over a year, were determined to keep their run going and applied pressure.
Heyside grabbed the goal they deserved in the 65th minute when Mark Hopwood produced a smart finish into the corner from 20 yards to register his sixth goal in as many games. Though the home side pressed for an equaliser, Shelley hung on for a well-earned point.
Elsewhere in the top flight, Diggle crashed to a 5-0 defeat at Newsome.
In Division Three, Moorside won 4-2 at Flockton, but Uppermill were hammered 7-0 at Scissett.
Danny Heywood scored for the sixth league game in a row as 3D Dynamos defeated Cartworth Moor 3-2 in a Division Four clash. Tom Milnes and Kyle Moore were also on the mark.
