Royton stunned by super Springhead

THERE’S no apologies this week for this page being a little biased towards the goings-on at one of the many suburbs around Oldham, but leafy Springhead was THE place for footy fans to be last weekend.
In the Premier Division of the FBT Manchester Football League, Springhead hosted the previously unbeaten and table-topping Royton Town at the Ashfield Crescent ground.
A rack of former Springhead players sponsored the match and apparently inspired the current side to a 3-0 win.
And what a treat lay in store for them: it was Springhead’s day to remember and manager Lee McAllister said: “It was a closer game than the scoreline suggested. Two mistakes by their ’keeper helped us. In the scheme of things it’s only three points, but it’s certainly been one of our most
memorable wins.” Ryan Hanson, Nathan Eastmond and Paul Stevenson were the goalscorers for the hosts.
Elsewhere in the Manchester League top flight, Avro triumphed 5-3 at Walshaw Sports, but Uppermill crashed 6-2 at Rochdale Sacred Heart.
