ANGLING:L JOE Rowan bagged top honours in the latest of the Medlock Bridge AC opens on the Park Lake, pole and maggot attracting four small f1s for a 5lb 14oz net.
Bob Harrison has enjoyed a profitable time on this venue, and he continued with a second-best 4lb 14oz catch on pole-fished maggot.
DAVE Chadwick seemingly makes the frame everywhere he goes. He netted first place in the latest of the Northern AA open matches on the Miners Arms lengths. After a slow start — Chadwick didn’t have a bite for the first two hours — he went on to land 7lb 9oz of skimmers and small roach on bread punch over liquidised bread. Shaun Paddon, of Tri-Cast Highfield, was second, with two good skimmers and a 2lb perch making up 5lb 11oz.
RAY Rigby topped the open match on Hough Farm Fishery’s Upper and Lower Benbo. He boasted 48lb 10oz of decent-sized carp on pole-fished maggot down the near side margins. He later switched to maggot long for ide and f1s. Second was Stephen Physick, who used banded pellet shallow for 10 decent-sized carp in a 35lb 13oz bag.
THE match dates for the teams-of-six Pennine Winter League have been finalised.
They are (all Sundays) — October 4, Huddersfield Narrow Canal at Slaithwaite; October 11, Rochdale Canal at Todmorden; October 25, Leeds and Liverpool Canal at Shipley; January 3, Mirfield Canal; January 17, Mirfield Canal.
Pay-outs should be excellent as organiser Richard East has planned for 10 teams. It’s £90 a team, payable at the first match. Individual pools are £15 for each match.
I GUESTED for the Dams and Locks team in a 60-peg Stafford Winter League match on the Shropshire Union Canal at Church Eaton. Using squatt and pinkie over groundbait at 11 metres, I managed over 150 small roach and gudgeon. My final tally of 4lb 2oz was good enough to claim the section spoils.
Dams and Locks were second overall, two points adrift of Shakespeare Superteam.
