Mighty Megram leads the charge

POINTS MACHINE . . . Oldham’s Callum Megram turns on the turbo during his superb display against Hawcoat.
OLDHAM 1ST 45. HAWCOAT PARK 1ST 17
CALLUM Megram racked up 25 points as Oldham made it two wins in three games in the North Lancashire and Cumbria League.
The scoreline was rather harsh on the previously-unbeaten visitors to Manor Park, with Oldham’s comfortable victory built on dogged defence in the first 20 minutes of both halves and superb counter-attacking skills.
Hawcoat had the better of early exchanges, and had a 10-0 lead in the first half hour. But Oldham pulled themselves together and soon afterwards winger Jason Green broke through several tackles, Callum Megram gave support and Max Horsfall was released to race under the posts. Megram converted.
Both teams fought hard but Oldham got ahead and by the half were 21-10 up.
The Oldham pack coped well with increased pressure from the whistle and kept the visitors at bay until Phil Graham intercepted a pass and ran 70 yards to score under the posts. Megram did the rest.
Nerves settled for the home side and Oldham gradually took charge - though were pushed hard all the way.
Oldham face their longest trip to Cumbria on Saturday when Silloth provide the opposition. Kick off is at 2pm.
