New-member Andy’s hole-in-one debut

GOLF: ANDY Thompson made an instant impact after joining Oldham Golf Club.
The new member was playing his first competition, a single Stableford, when his nine-iron shot at the par-three 145-yard fifth hole went straight in for an ace!
The competition for the lady-president’s prize was won by Steve Ogden with 37 points. Ogden won a card play-off against runner-up Mick McCafferty.
The same club’s mixed open, organised by Jane Antrobus, attracted 19 teams from 13 different clubs.
Winners with 83 points were the host club’s Julia Wild, Jill Nolan, Steve Daubney and Mark Furnival.
Runners-up with 80 were Ashton pair Diane Williams and Gail Robertson, and Oldham captain Steve Mills and club-mate Daniel Marland.
Werneth’s Tracey Rowbotham, Lee Rowbotham and Adam Rowbotham linked up with and Linda Newman (Saddleworth) to finish third on 76.
ASHTON have reached the final of the prestigious Archie Preston mixed foursomes competition.
They defeated Davenport 5-2 on their home course to book a final date with either Lymm or Pleasington.
Winning pairs for Ashton were Rachel and Mike Wood, Steve Barlow and Gail Robertson, Frank Shaw and Lynne Wood, Lee Butterworth and Anna Lomas, and Neil Hallsworth and Susan Barlow.
The final is at Houldsworth Golf Club on September 27.
DAVE Price was the proud winner of Oldham GEMS’ lady-president’s prize.
He posted 20 points to finish one clear of Gordon Howard, with Ken Lunn next on 18.
The subsidiary four-man team competition was won by Gordon Howard, Ken Lunn, Jack Simpson and John Smith with 61 points
