GOLF: KAY Broughton’s golfing adventure has taken her from Saddleworth to Werneth via Oldham.
Now lady captain at Werneth, Kay took up golf after being forced to give up her main sporting passion, badminton. She currently plays off 36 and is a keen supporter of the weekly competitions at the Garden Suburb course.
Said Kay: “Werneth is a traditional club, with a ladies membership of around 25, who regularly turn out every Thursday.
“There are lots of trophies, donated by members past, to play for, and the women also turn out for the winter league.”
Kay (68), who lives in Mossley, worked for Greater Manchester Police for almost 20 years as a
secretary and human resources officer.
During her time at Oldham Golf Club she had a year as captain, while her badminton activities took in the Oldham and Rochdale Leagues.
She is focusing now on her year as captain, helping to organise and play in the regular events at the course. She also aims to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society along the way.
