ANGLING: AFTER several near misses in the Medlock Bridge AC matches on the Park Lake, Bob Harrison hit the jackpot in the Saturday open on the same venue.
Using the long pole and maggot, he tempted a 1lb chub and lots of small fish for a 6lb 7oz bag.
Steve Shaw needed just 3lb 9oz to take second place — worm and caster accounted for one decent f1 and some small roach and skimmers.
LEE Humphries claimed the spoils in the Medlock Bridge AC Bank Holiday match on the Park Lake thanks to 10lb 10oz of skimmers on worm and corn. John Parker was runner up, with pole and worm accounting for five skimmers and bits in an 8lb 1oz bag.
BEN Summerscales led the way in the Todmorden AS event at Townhouse. Using the pole and pellet, he caught some decent carp for a tidy 41lb 5oz. Pete Mottram, in second place, emplyed similar tactics for 36lb 2oz of carp.
THOUGH weights were decent, they weren’t up to their normal standard in the latest of the Todmorden AS Tuesday evening match on Croft. Rob McKendry topped the turnout with 32lb 7oz of carp on pole, waggler and pellet. Mick Clegg was just behind, with his 31lb 6oz net of carp falling to pole and pellet. Todmorden AS’s next members-only match is on Sunday, September 13, at Townhouse.
PETE Jones claimed top spot in the Diggle AC Tuesday evening match on Tanners Dam, with long pole and pellet working well for two carp and skimmers (12lb 6oz). Ian Hirst also included two carp and some skimmers in his second-placed 10lb 6oz
JOHN Cross took the Cairo AC Championship honours on Denshaw Vale. He had 7lb 14oz of carp and roach, which saw off Phil Cross’s 6lb 5oz of tench and skimmers.
ROD Illing won the last Twingate AC OAP match on the club water, with a small carp and two ide weighing 5lb 8oz. Mick Diskin’s 3lb 10oz of bits was good enough for runner-up spot.
The previous Twingates AC OAP match on the club water was a dire affair, with only two anglers topping the 1lb mark. Pete Hill needed just 1lb 15oz of silvers to emerge victorious, with Illing in second place (1lb 13oz).
James Cantello of Tri-Cast Highfield topped the latest Saturday open on the Broken Cross section of the Trent and Mersey Canal. He applied squatt over groundbait for 5lb 10oz 6drams of small roach and skimmers. Brian Meadows started on bread punch, but soon switched to squatt across for his second-best 5lb 6oz of small fish.
