OLDHAM started the defence of their Lancashire Super Eights Elite League title with a resounding 7-3 victory at Bury.
After losing the opening game, the town team drew level courtesy of Ian Walters’ 4-1 win, which included a finish of 130. He averaged a superb 90.03 for every three darts thrown.
Mick Kenway, returning to the side after a three-year absence, completed a 4-1 success to put Oldham ahead. He averaged 72.11.
Andy Pearson (4-3, 72.07) made it 3-1, before Dave Airey (81.38) extended Oldham’s lead with a 4-1 win. Steve Gallimore’s 4-2 victory at 70.78 made it five in a row for the visitors.
Bury hit back to claim matches seven and eight and keep alive their hopes of snatching a draw.
However, Oldham made sure of victory thanks to great darts from debutant Stuart Harding (4-0, 85.24) and the vastly-experienced Dave Rawstron (4-0, 86-36).
The reigning champions return to action on Sunday, September 20, with an away clash against Rochdale.
