RUGBY: WATERHEAD Warriors were aiming for a third win on the spin in NCL Division Three, but despite battling to the end, they slipped to a 56-10 loss at home to Thornhill Trojans.
The damage was done in the first half as Waterhead conceded 30 points. They went in front through Joel Pearson’s try and Alec Jobson’s goal, but Trojans hit back with a devastating six-try blitz in 22 minutes.
Liam Morley, Adam Bird (two), Ryan Fenton, Anthony Broadhead and Mason Bailey went in, with Joel Gibson adding three conversions.
Chris Brown bagged Waterhead’s only other try five minutes after the restart but a squad containing half-a-dozen under-18s were unable to make further inroads into the deficit. Mindaugas Bendikas (two), Bird and Gibson touched down for Trojans, with the latter also kicking five goals for a personal tally of 20 points.
