MOORSIDE skipper Danny Anchor is applying a laid-back approach as he gears up to stop Bootle making it a hat-trick of wins against Saddleworth League sides in the LCB Cup.
The on-form Merseysiders arrive at Turf Pit Lane on Sunday, having already dumped Stayley and Uppermill out of the competition in earlier rounds.
But that statistic doesn’t concern Anchor: “We’ll be going into Sunday’s game completely blind, to be honest. I know very little about Bootle, but I’m not bothered with how the opposition are doing.
“We’ll just focus on our game and as long as we play to our maximum capability, hopefully that will be enough.
“We’re going really well at the moment. We’re still undefeated in the league and everyone is flying. We’ve only lost one game so far this season, in the Tanner Cup, so confidence is high. We’re hoping for good support to help us on Sunday too.
“We’re the only Saddleworth League team left in the competition, so if the weather stays fair we could well attract a good crowd. It would help the lads if there’s a decent turnout to help us over the line.”
It could turn out to be quite a pivotal weekend for Moorside. A league win at Micklehurst on Saturday could see them overtake league leaders Saddleworth, who have an open date.
“A maximum points win would take us to the top of the table and that would give us a great boost into the Bootle game,” added Anchor. “I reckon we deserve to be up there challenging this season. We’ve played some good stuff. Micklehurst won’t be easy of course, but we’re more than capable of getting a result.”
