Appeal for new match secretary

BOWLS: THE Chadderton League faces an uncertain future — and even extinction — unless someone comes forward to be match secretary for 2016.
After 16 years, Ray Jones is his final season in the post. The job involves handling all results from the six divisions and producing league tables.
Despite being mentioned at several of the league delegate meetings, the situation remains unresolved.
And with the current season at its halfway stage, any would-be successor needs to be appointed sooner rather than later.
Anyone interested in taking over should email Ray Jones at: rfjbowl@tiscali.co.uk
THERE is a strong local representation in the Greater Manchester women’s team which will take on Royton on Sunday (2pm). Royton is the venue for the home leg and included in the Manchester team are Eileen Dawson, Rachel Fish and Karen Houlston (Delph); Chris Kewley and Sophie Rigney (Springbank), Margaret Brooks (Grapes), Ann Burgess and Jane King (Coalshaw Park), Joan Horton (Diggle), Diane Fish (Royton Cricket) and Janet Taylor (Dobcross). Alma Tickle and Karen Hughes (Springbank) are reserves.
PAUL Heap (Springbank) and Gary Ellis, Jimmy Derby and reigning champion Nicky Brooks (Nimble Nook) provide lots of local interest in the finals of the £1,550 JW Lees Classic at Hopwood Sports and Social Club on Sunday (1pm).
BARRY Seville and Steve Mellor, and John Ashton and Lee Schofield will carry the Oldham flag in the Thwaites men’s pairs at Norden BC on Sunday (5.30pm).
Christine Seville and Maxine Fisher are the only Oldham pair in action in the women’s competition,
sponsored by AC Ventilation, which runs in conjunction with the men’s event.
Vacancies remain for the men’s pairs on July 19 and August 2 and the women’s pairs on Sunday and on July 12 and August 2.
