MEET THE LADY CAPTAINS -
BROOKDALE
ANGIE Hunter and her family are firmly entrenched in sport so it is is no surprise that she has become lady-captain at Brookdale.
Angie played hockey on a regular basis before marrying Barry, who represented Lancashire at swimming.
And their three sons have all made their mark at rugby union - two of them at professional level.
Youngest son Ben is a former a member of the Sale Sharks academy. He has represented Lancashire and currently plays for Doncaster Knights.
Dan is a former Harlequins man who is now coaching, while the Hunters’ other son, Sam, also represented Lancashire.
Angie has been playing golf for the seven years since she first joined Brookdale. She was also a member of Ashton for two years during that time.
As befits her sporting prowess, Angie has enjoyed plenty of success at Brookdale, winning the Millennium Trophy three times, including for the last two years, plus last year’s Doctor Fitzgerald pairs with Trevor Mayo and the Centenary pairs with Adele Keate.
She is hoping Brookdale can shine in the county-wide Bell Cup after winning their first-round tie. Brookdale face Pleasington away from home in the second round.
Angie, who play offs 15 - although she was down to 14 at one stage - is raising money for Mencap during her captaincy.
To that end, she has already organised a fashion show, while fund-raising will continue via raffles and other events throughout the summer.
Angie, a secretary at Delph Primary School and who lives in Greenfield, also hopes to attract new female members to the club.
Current numbers are low and young blood is much needed, she admits.
