OLDHAM District under-11s secured a seventh straight victory this season as they saw off Tameside by four wickets at Broadbottom CC.

Batting first, it was a nervy start from Tameside and a smart piece of wicket keeping from Nathan Walker brought a breakthrough in the fourth over.

Oldham bowled extremely tightly, bowling 14 maidens in the 32 overs.

Will Potts was the most miserly with figures of six overs, four maidens one wicket for two runs.

Tameside never got going and the last 15 overs went for just 16 runs. They managed just 54 in their 32 overs.

In reply, Ben Brierley and Walker opened and looked steady until the latter hit the ball in the air to mid-off, and then without facing a ball, Daniel Stock was run out with a direct hit.

That gave Tameside a glimmer of hope with the score at 10 for two.

Royton’s Brierley batted superbly though, defending well.

He was assisted by Thomas Mayor who reached 12 before playing across the line of a straight delivery. At that point Oldham were 50 for three.

With just five required to win, there was a flurry of wickets.

Hannan Shazad, Joseph Aston and Jacob Rimmer all came and went without any runs being added to the score.

However, it was Brierley who kept a cool head, hitting another boundary to take him to 36 not out as Oldham secured a four-wicket win.
