Angling: STEVE Baines topped the Twingates AC Tuesday match for the second week running.

His pole and pellet tactics netted 14lb 9oz of skimmers and a solitary 4lb carp. Tony Holden was second with his 7lb 13oz made up of skimmers and ide

TANNER’S Dam is fishing well as weights in the latest of the Diggle AC Tuesday matches proved, with the top three all posting double figures. Wally Butler was the best with his 22lb 13oz catch of four carp that fell to long pole and meat. He beat Ian Hirst into second, with his 13lb 13oz catch made up of silvers taken on pole and maggot.

ORGANISER Darren Webb (Medlock Bridge AC) bossed Saturday’s Charity match in aid of the Veterans of the Queen’s Lancashire Regiment on the Alexandra Park Lake. His peg 16 came to life as he fished corn under the bridge to catch f1s to three pounds. A switch to pellet fished in front of him brought three good skimmers for around six pounds as he finished with a super 23lb 14oz. That was well in front of Bob Harrison’s 13lb 13oz of skimmers and f1s that all fell to pole and maggot fished at eight metres.

TOM Brownbill (Maver NW) topped the Medlock Bridge AC bank holiday Monday open match on the Park Lake with his worm, caster and corn fished on the tip working well as he tipped 26lb 5oz of skimmers and f1s onto the scales.

Dave Machin was second and again it was a 20lb plus weight. He caught f1s and skimmers that fell for 6mm pellets fished at 14 metres over micros and groundbait.

DARREN Webb and his dad Charlie run Medlock Bridge AC, and the hard work they have put in over the years has paid off with their Cargate Pool producing incredible pleasure catches.

The club also has Alexandra Park Lake and Strinesdale Reservoir both consistently throwing up excellent weights. Darren has been asking me for a while to sample the fishing on Strinesdale, so I went and spent three hours with him there.

I ended the session with 26lb of pristine roach, and at least half a dozen of them weighed around the one pound mark.

Club membership costs just £35 for seniors. There are reductions for juniors and OAPS and there is also a family ticket available. Contact Darren on 07753 414838.
