GOLF:
FOUR clubs celebrated double wins in the latest round of Oldham Golf League matches.
Ashton ‘A’ team are making a promising defence of their title and two last-green victories meant a resounding 8-0 success over Werneth ‘A’.
And Ashton ‘B’ triumphed 6-2 at the Garden Suburb course of Werneth ‘B’, who remain without a win. Ashton are out in front in both East divisions.
Oldham clinched a rare win double for them as their ‘B’ team pulled off a stunning 6-2 away success to halt West Division pacesetters Stamford ‘B’ in their tracks. The result maintained the unbeaten start for Wayne Adamson’s Lees New Road charges.
Oldham ‘A’ were not to be outdone and they completed a 7-1 home success to leave Stamford ‘A’ bottom.
Dukinfield doubled up as their ‘A’ team won 7-1 at Saddleworth while it was a 6-2 home win for the ‘B’ side — enough to see them to the top of the pile in the ‘B’ West section.
And the fourth club to win twice was North Manchester, both teams beating their Werneth Low counterparts 6-2, with the ‘A’ team especially pleased with an away success.
League action takes a back seat this week as the clubs take part in the first rounds of the ‘A’ and ‘B’ team cups.
