Chronicle Cup prize: Juniors call

CALLING all young golfers — the Junior Chronicle Cup is accepting entries.
The competition, for boys and girls, takes place at Saddleworth on Sunday, August 23. Sponsored by the Oldham Evening Chronicle and Lees Village Service Station, the event starts at 11am.
The Junior Chronicle Cup will go to the best nett score, while other prizes will be awarded to the best gross, best gross under 14 years and best between 14-18 years. There will also be runners-up gifts as well.
Handicap limits are boys 28, girls 36. Competition handicap is required with certificate.
Entry is £4. Make cheques payable to Saddleworth Golf Club, and post to Saddleworth Golf Club, Mountain Ash, Ladcastle Road, Uppermill OL3 6LT.

The Chronicle is a keen supporter of golf and backs men’s and women’s competitions in the borough. The women’s Chronicle Cup was being staged at Saddleworth today.
Mark Riley, from the host club, and Saddleworth’s Nick Kerlin (Saddleworth) won BROOKDALE’s Invitation Day with 42 Stableford points.
The runners-up were G Clarke (Brookdale) and Steve Mills (Crompton and Royton) with 41 points, on a card play-off from James Pearson (Brookdale) and Richard Stevenson (Sheffield).
Michael Shockledge won STAMFORD’S Rawson Cup — a major competition — with a nett 65.
The 11-handicapper was a shot clear of Josh Ainscough 70-4-66, while Kevin Brown (83-16-67) was third on the day.
