CLL CRICKET: PROFESSIONAL Geeth Alwis and overseas amateur Sam Fielding played starring roles as Royton snatched victory from the jaws of defeat at the Paddock on Saturday.
Prospects of a home victory looked bleak when Royton were bowled out for 113, Alwis playing a lone hand with a battling 55 and evergreen Mo Bux taking four for 40.
But Alwis and Fielding ripped into the Rochdale batting and the visitors were skittled for 101.
Fielding took four for 29 and Alwis three for 17 as Rochdale capitulated despite paid man Wensley Lansdale's contribution of 24.
Championship action saw a convincing derby victory for Heyside at Werneth, who batted first and were blasted out for a meagre 88.
Danny Cashin (five for 45) and Scott Bloor (three for 40) bowled unchanged, and there were two runs outs.
In reply, Heyside cruised to 91 for one with opening batsman Jon Selby unbeaten on 33.
Oldham lost by six wickets in a rain-affected match at Radcliffe.
Oldham were restricted to 128 for six from 36 overs, a total the hosts passed for the loss of four wickets.
