WERNETH’S 2015 captain John Suttie plans to inflict a little bit of pain on his fellow members... but all in a good cause.
John, who clocks up 30 years as a member of the Garden Suburb club this year, is to have a “bloodsome” competition as part of his fund-raising efforts that will go towards Prostate Cancer and The Samaritans.
“It’s like a greensome, only in reverse,” said John. “Instead of the pair both hitting drives and choosing the best, they both drive and then their playing partners choose the worst! It can lead to some rather big numbers, but it is all for fun.”
The former, 27-year detective constable is a 13-handicapper. His 22-year-old son Jack also plays at Werneth, off a handicap of one.
The likeable Scot is looking forward to his year in office and has been delighted with the way members have been buying the Prostate Cancer pin badges from the bar.
“We have already sold three boxes and I would like to see all our members wearing the badge on their golf caps and jumpers to support the charity,” he added.
