Oldham hit heights in last quarter

NETBALL: OLDHAM Netball Club’s National Premier League team needed to produce some of their best form of the season in the final quarter to see off Surrey outfit The Downs.

Their 51-40 verdict looked a long way off when they trailed 14-13 after the first quarter, despite strong defensive pressure from Rachel Henry and Beth Cobden.

Coach Debbie Hallas opted to bring Georgie Webster into wing defence and moved Cobden from forward to centre, and the changes made a difference.

Unbeaten Oldham won more ball from failed feeds into the circle, while Alice Travis and Kathryn Turner shot strongly, and Maria McAndrew joined in on the edge of the circle as Oldham led 26-23 at half-time.

Goal Shooter Krista Enziano came on for the second half and Oldham took their time adjusting to the new pairing. But the team’s experience showed as they extended the lead to 36-32.

They then turned on the style in the final quarter with only two misses from 17 attempts.

Oldham welcome Oaksway of Hartlepool to Hathershaw Sports Centre for their next fixture.

OLDHAM under-16s made light work of their game against Macclesfield.

Registering an emphatic 86-9 success, they thoroughly dominated their opponents, with shooters Amelia Hall and Lucy Stevenson scoring freely and Susie Armstrong marking and blocking well in defence.
