BIG-BREAK specialist Dean Sheridan achieved a personal milestone when he compiled a 128 clearance in a North Manchester Snooker League fixture.

The 33-year-old Failsworth star had previously made a highest break of 122 in competition play.

The new total came in heroic circumstances as Sheridan snatched victory from the jaws of defeat for his Failsworth team-mates against Crumpsall Cons.

Not only was Sheridan conceding 49 points to his luckless opponent, but Failsworth trailed by 62 points on aggregate going into the last frame. Sheridan had to win by at least 112 points to clinch the bonus points for his team. And he did so in brilliant style after a quiet start. Enthralled spectators watched him pot 14 reds and colours before mopping up the colours on their spots for his 128 clearance and a 134-0 success.

Sheridan said: “I had made one or two 122 breaks, so this was a bit of a breakthrough. I have made bigger breaks in practice, but never in a match.”

Sheridan, a courier driver who lives in Droylsden, has been playing snooker since the age of nine but, unusually for someone of his level, plays only two or three times a week because of work commitments.
