CRICKET: A FAMILIAR face returns to Old Trafford on Sunday.

Littleborough lad Chris Schofield runs out as a member of the Bamford Fieldhouse side which meets Northern in the LCB Cup final.

Schofield (33), said: “I think it’s two or three years since I last played there, and that’s when I was with Surrey.

“A lot of redevelopment work has gone on since then. I’m looking forward to seeing it close up.”

Schofield’s career has taken him from Lancashire to the Minor Counties Championship with Cheshire and Suffolk, and finally to Surrey, with a slice of second-team cricket in between.

In 2007, when he signed for Surrey, he was also named in England’s World Twenty20 squad.

Schofield, who plays as an amateur for Bamford, has no intention of returning to the first-class scene, and is instead keeping busy through the summer months with corporate work for the Professional Cricketers’ Association.

Schofield is living in Littleborough with his family after several years in London.

It means he is not too far from the clubs which have become his work place this summer.

With Bamford sitting pretty at the top of the table, Schofield also knows how important it is not to forget Saturday’s league match against Stayley.

“That comes first and if we win that one it takes us another step closer to the title,” said Schofield.
