TIM O’Leary racked up 42 Stableford points to win the Eddie Hopkinson Memorial, a major

competition at Crompton and Royton.

In doing so, he saw off the challenge of his son, Scott, who was second with 39 points.

Scott won a card play-off against third-placed Christopher Calow.

Jack Bottomley-Clift, thanks to a round of 69-3-66, won the Centenary Trophy, a major competition.

The runner-up was Gary Melling (73-6-67), with Christopher Calow (75-8-67) third after a card play-off.

THE Suttie family played the generation game in winning two prizes in Werneth’s Centenary medal event.

Jack Suttie produced a scintillating seven-under par 61 (with seven birdies and no bogeys) to win the first division while father John landed the veteran’s prize with a nett 66.

And there was another double celebration as Mark Abbott and Ian Hartley both holed in one — the

former at the 197-yard sixth and the latter at the 124-yard tenth.

GOLF: ANDY Woolley was in great form at Stamford, recording back-to-back wins.

The 12-handicapper kicked off with victory in the President’s Cup after carding a net 63, four shots clear of Dave Walker (85 gross, net 67). Martin Dwyer was third (74 gross, 68 net).

Woolley then bagged the festival Am-Am 24 hours later, with his team winning on a card play-off on 86 points, from Alan Booth’s contingent.

Meanwhile, Stamford’s Dunham Forest swept aside Didsbury 7-0 at home.

ANDY Milner, with rounds of 66 and 63 for a combined score of 129, clinched the Captain’s prize at Oldham. He came home a shot clear of Shaun Dixon (65 and 65), with Geoff Allen back in third (68 and 65).

The Captain’s Spoon went to Ray Fry with a net 64 on a card play-off from Pete Dunbar. Geoff Allen (65 net) was third.

TRACEY Rowbotham — wife of Werneth captain Lee — claimed family bragging rights with a major win of the season . . . after a marathon 54 holes.

Tracey beat Sylvia Grant at the third time of asking after first finishing joint top in the Lady Vice-Captain’s day medal and then coming in with the same score in the first 18-hole play-off.
