TITLE TRIUMPH... Failsworth Dynamos players and staff celebrate winning the Lancashire Amateur League Premier Division title following a comprehensive 6-2 victory over Little Lever.
FOOTBALL:
SIX of the best saw Failsworth Dynamos clinch the Lancashire Amateur League Premier Division title.
Wayne Kennedy’s men swept aside visitors Little Lever 6-2 on the final day of the season.
One month ago Dynamos knew they had to win all six games in hand to reach the summit — and they did just that, pipping Bury GSOB to the post by one point.
In front of a crowd of 150, the home side went behind early on, only for Damien Cottier to equalise.
Liam Stuttard struck before the interval to calm the nerves.
Three quickfire goals after the restart from Ashley McCunny, Cottier and Terry Qualters put the hosts out of reach.
Jamie Royle extended the lead and even a late Little Lever consolation could not dampen the spirits as Kennedy and his men celebrated.
Kennedy said: “I am still buzzing, it is only just sinking in.
“The turnout was brilliant and I think that made us all a bit nervous at first.
“But we edged in front before half-time, and the three goals after the break effectively sealed the win for us.
“It was such a windy day but that played into our hands in the second half because it held the ball up for our faster players to run on to.
“We are delighted to be champions and I am confident we can defend the title next season.
“The players have been magnificent. They have grown up and played in the same side since they were eight-years-old. They all love it at this club and won’t be going anywhere else.”
