Second round sees double giant-killing

AMATEUR FOOTBALL:

FC CARSONS of the D & J Builders (North-West) Ltd Jack Abbott Premier Division suffered a shock Challenge Cup exit at the hands of Lark Inn.

The top flight side were beaten 6-2 by the David Giblin Division One outfit in the second round.

Clarke notched a hat-trick for Lark Inn, and was joined on the scoresheet by R Shaughnessy, Schofield and Jackson.

Hodgson replied for FC Carsons, whose opponents also scored an own goal.

The second surprise result saw Division One Westwood lose 2-0 to Royal Oak, of the Martin Buckley Division Two.

Weavers edged out Crompton & Royton 6-5, thanks to braces from A Biggins and T Lloyd, and

Oldham Sunday League strikes from S Edge and G Sessions.

Fitton Hill defeated Grey Mare 4-0.

D Watson and P Naylor were on target for Anglers in their 2-1 victory at the expense of Oldham GPO.

W Dean and S Davies got two apiece in Royton FC’s 6-1 win at Red Star.

R Quinlan and C Finover did the rest of the damage.

Khartoum ‘A’ were beaten 2-0 by Rifle Range Reds, for whom J Curley and N Eastmond netted.

D Hodgkins and A Taylor both got braces for Springhead ‘B’ in their 4-1 triumph over Friendship Society.

Chaddy End progressed to the next round after their opponents, White Hart, could not field a team.

In the Premier Division, Coppice United ‘A’ roared to a 5-3 win over Failsworth Athletic.

S Barrow was on target three times for United, with N Butt adding two goals.

S Wilson scored a brace for Athletic, for whom G Billington produced a solitary strike.

FC Broadgate earned an impressive 7-3 win at Oddies.

A Duffy, N McCabe and A Ruddock helped themselves to two goals apiece, with J Harrison completing the scoring.

In reply, M Hill, A Conneran and N Dawson netted for Oddies.
