GRAHAM Mitchell is enduring an up-and-down season on Chadderton Mill Lodge, tasting victory one week and struggling the next.
But the Gilders rod was in red-hot form in the recent Winter League match at the venue.
In an exceptionally tight finish, with just two ounces separating the top three, Mitchell came out on top from peg six.
After breaking through a thin layer of ice, he used maggot up in the water at 11 metres for two carp and some cracking ide for 19lb 8oz.
Mick Tighe, also of Gilders, and Steve Hodges (Rochdale Anglers) tied for runners-up spot with 19lb 8oz.
Tighe’s net was made up of half-a-dozen carp on corn at nine metres from peg nine, while Hodges opted for pellet at 11 metres for four carp and some silvers.
OLDHAM Fly Fishing Club, featuring a slide-show on Entomology (without the Latin) by Stuart Croft, are staging their last event of the season at Springhead Liberal Club on Monday, February 7 (7.45pm).
Entry is £3 for non-members. For further information, contact Neil on 07811 356 482.
