BOWLS: LEADERS Waterloo and Taunton take on second-placed Springbank in an early-morning Inbev Winter Bowling League ‘A’ Division showdown tomorrow.

The 9am start is due to a backlog of fixtures caused by the icy weather of December and early January.

A PROPOSAL to charge all members of affiliated clubs a £1 levy is the most contentious item on the agenda for tomorrow’s British Crown Green Bowling Association annual meeting in Northwich.
Two separate notices of motion for a £1 levy, from the BCGBA’s Management Committee and the Shropshire County Association, are likely to cause fierce debate.

If either is passed, players will be forced to fork out a pound for every club they represent.

The Management Committee proposal says that 15-per-cent of the money raised would go back to the County, Women’s and and British Parks Associations.

In contradiction to a recent Bowls Development Group proposal, they do not specify how the extra 85-per-cent — believed to be in the region of £85,000 — would be used.

Shropshire claim their proposal would benefit bowlers and clubs, and enable the BCGBA to appoint full-time officers and pay them accordingly.

ANNUAL meeting of the Chadderton Bowling League will be held at West End BC on Tuesday, January 25 (8pm).
Delegates must bring the entry forms for the 2011 season and also pay the obligatory fees.

LEES and Hey Conservative Club are offering their green for use by any team wishing to play in the Saddleworth League on Saturday afternoons.
The club currently has one team in the league and, as they will be away from home every other weekend, the green will be available should a team struggling for a home need to use it.
