CRICKET: TINO Best, who acted as deputy professional for Crompton in the CLL in 2007, has been named in the West Indies provisional 30-man squad for the World Cup.

Barbados-born Best said: "I am elated. My bowling has improved tremendously this year and I am happy the selectors still have me in their thoughts.

“It would mean everything to me to be selected to play for the West Indies in the World Cup and get back on the international scene."

The team is likely to be captained by Darren Sammy, whom Best stood in for at Crompton when Sammy was on Test duty in England with the touring Windies team.

EDDIE Bayliss, chairman of the Saddleworth and District Cricket League, has paid tribute to long-standing Hollinwood professional Aamir Bashir.
He said: “It was sad to learn of his death.

“A dedicated family man, Aamir was well respected throughout the time he spent in the Saddleworth League.

“He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.”

Aamir, who also had a two-year spell at Uppermill, died after a long illness at his home in Multan, Pakistan. He was 38.
