Icy conditions bring dangers on bankside

Angling: IT is important to take great care when on or near the bankside.
Conditions at this time of year can be treacherous and water temperatures well below freezing. To fall in could be fatal.
Ideally go fishing with someone as, if you get in trouble, there is someone to either help or get help. If you are going on your own let someone know where you are going.
CHADDERTON angler John Jones has travelled to matches with Alan Dawson and Pete Humphries for years and it shows, as his record is excellent.
He is a regular money-winner in all the top matches and, last time out, Jones took first place in the Brookside Fisheries open.
The Fisheries owner had to cut pegs out of the ice on Snake Lake, but his efforts paid off with a decent day’s sport.
Using pellet in the deeper water at 10 metres, Jones had 30lb of small carp to beat Roy Hampton’s 21lb 14oz net. Lee Addy was third with 17lb 10oz.
ANYONE interested in a cracking day of fishing over the Christmas period should look no further than Chadderton Mill AC, who are running an open match on Boxing Day.
The draw is at 9am, with fishing between 10am and 3pm. Tickets are £15 all in.
