table tennis: THE wintery weather hit fixtures hard in the Oldham and District Table Tennis League.
Some matches were postponed as snow and ice made getting to venues virtually impossible.
In Division One, Grotton ‘A’ and Werneth ‘B’ managed to defy the elements, but they had to settle for a share of the spoils in a 5-5 draw.
Shaun Ellis, of Grotton, was the classiest performer on the night. He bagged a hat-trick of wins and teamed up with Dave Morris to clinch a draw by winning the doubles.
Morris also had a close 13-11 win in the fifth over Karen Hill.
Eddie Darlington and Rob Carter won two apiece for Werneth.
Elsewhere, Honeywell ‘B’ added to BAE’s relegation worries by inflicting an 8-2 defeat on the club’s ‘B’ team.
In Division Two, promotion-chasing Werneth ‘C’ were made to fight all the way for a 6-4 win over Hyde YMCA ‘B’.
Steve Hilton was the thorn in the Werneth side as he was unbeaten in his three singles. Karen Hill and Doug Hill won each two for Werneth.
There was an early-season relegation battle at Honeywell, where the ‘D’ team went down to Deaf Club ‘A’.
