Dave looks on bright side of life

FOOTBALL: WHEN Oddies FC manager Dave Pullen said at the start of the season that the future was orange, he wasn’t kidding.

Dave vowed to dress head-to-toe in the striking colour if his side made it to the D&J Builders (North-West) Ltd Oldham Sunday League Challenge Cup final.

And that’s exactly what they did. Despite a 4-2 defeat to Coppice United, the manager enjoyed the experience.

He said: “We played in an orange kit until this season, when Oddies landlord Bruce Sadler - who has been great to us from the start - bought us a new blue and white one.

“So I made this promise, without thinking we’d make it to the final but I’m a man of my word!

“It gave everyone a good laugh.”

Weavers waltz to final victory

WEAVERS completed the double by adding the A W Trippier Cup to the BKC Trophies premier division title with a 5-1 win over Harlequin.

Harlequin opened the scoring through Andrew Simpson after 25 minutes but it proved to be a false dawn as Weavers were soon level when Nicky Hands equalised.

Lee Bradley scoring two more before the break.

Sam Butterworth made it 4-1 after the interval, before Bradley completed his hat-trick.
