Ladcastle win for Alan and Andy

ALAN ENTWISTLE and Andy Dunster claimed the spoils in the Ladcastle Trophy at SADDLEWORTH, a matchplay event played out over the course of the whole season.

Having got through six rounds to reach the final, the pair defeated the team of David Fox and Ian Buckley in a close-run match.

The Wray Cup, a competition for handicappers between one and 10 which uses scores from the best five medal rounds of the season, was won by Mark Anderson-Wild with a tally of 344.

Richard Hughes was second (344) and Steve Harrington third (347).

Nick Sunderland came out well on top in the Wray Salver — for handicaps between 11 and 20 - with a tally of 323. Next best was Peter Collinge (345) with David Charnock third (349).

Neil Bradley registered 40 points to clinch victory in the Wharmton qualifier. Martin Orme and Simon Halliwell registered 38 points apiece in the Stableford format.


BLACKLEY defeated Dukinfield 5-2 to win the Manchester and District Golf Alliance Foursomes at Worsley Marriott.

Brian Johnson and Chris Thompson, Alan Burton and Phil Marcroft and Alan Lane and Duncan Teal won their matches, while Julian Robinson and Ian Harrop made up the team.

Cliff Barrett scored 39 points to win a Stableford competition at Blackley. Danny Speight (38) was second, while Andy Blezard (37) finished third.

A mixed open Stableford was won by Tom and Brenda Simpson with 42 points.


IAN TURNER, with a round of 74-10-64, won a medal competition at WERNETH. He finished a shot clear of Lee Rowbotham (68-3-65), who was runner-up on the card from Mark Wareing (71-6-65).



A TEAM of Andy Frizzell, James Frizzell, Jordan Flint and Phil Delaney came out on top in a Stableford at CROMPTON AND ROYTON in which the best two scores counted on each hole.

The 83-point total was two ahead of three other four-man teams.

In second were Peter Boggiano, Lee Conway, Derek Conway and Dougie Kenyon, third were Chris Rabbich, junior captain Robert Calow, Chris Calow and David Holme, while Chris King, Cyril King, Charlie Lowe and Tony Sutherland were fourth.


STEVE RAE, Dave Bruce, Alan Squires and Eric Charles won a four-man Stableford event at OLDHAM with 91 points.

Dave Taylor, Gary Lee, Tony Boyle and Clive Newton were second with 85 points, on the card from of Lee Blainey, Graham Pendleton, Jack Roberts and Frank Lawrence (85).

Terry Kelly and Roger Stansfield clinched first prize in a four-ball better-ball medal with a score of 58, just ahead of Mark Ruff and Alan Squires and Matt Radcliffe and Lee Newsome (59).


TONY CAVANAGH (77–9-68) won STAMFORD’S Goodbye Summer Medal from Peter Jackson (81–12–69) and Mike Hamer (91-21–70).
