Mills angered by Boro performance

“IT was the worst performance in my time as manager.”
That was how Tony Mills described crisis-club Oldham Boro’s display after they returned from AFC Blackpool empty-handed.
The 2-1 defeat extended his side’s losing sequence to six matches and left the Whitebank Stadium boss at the end of his tether.
Mills has taken immediate action by releasing well-known local striker James Curley.
Boro sit fourth from bottom in division one of the Vodkat North-West Counties League, and Mills said: “We’re shocking at the moment and we would have struggled to compete against a team from the lower echelons of the Oldham Sunday League.
“It was disgraceful and the worst performance in my time as manager. Not a word was said on the bus on the way home.”
Boro’s miserable weekend was compounded when intruders wrecked the clubhouse at the ground, causing thousands of pounds worth of damage.
The clearing up operation is under way, but the club faces an uncertain future.
On the playing front, Mills has little hope of strengthening his squad before Saturday’s home match against Atherton Collieries.
Mills said: “It’s a fact that we can’t compete at a financial level with other non-league clubs.
“It also doesn’t help that defender Tim Buxton is still out injured, ’keeper Matty Blair has retired and striker Darren Scanlan is struggling to attend training sessions and matches because of work commitments.”
MOSSLEY face a tough task in round two of the UniBond League President’s Cup competition.
The Lilywhites, who are in UniBond League Challenge Cup action tonight, have been drawn away to FC Halifax Town on Tuesday, November 17.
Town are unbeaten in 10 division one north matches — nine wins and a draw — and sit five points behind Colwyn Bay. However, the West Yorkshire outfit have four games in hand.
Mossley play host to Leigh Genesis tonight, three days after the two sides shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw.
