Saddleworth suffer slump

SADDLEWORTH’S unbeaten record went up in smoke with a 10-0 hammering by league leaders Glodwick in the Oldham Table Tennis League first division.
Andy Jackson, Mick Moir and Mark Ramsbottom were outstanding on the night for Glodwick.
There was a first league win of the season for Werneth C in their 7–3 defeat of BAE B with two wins each for Karen Hill, Paul Wilkinson and Doreen Schofield.
The return of Wayne Renton helped Honeywell A to a 7-3 win over BAE A as he was undefeated with help from Steve Barber and Phil Myers with two each.
A close game at Hollinwood B saw Werneth B triumph 6-4. Gary Skinner was undefeated for the victors.
Hollinwood’s A team won 8-2 at home to Rosehill with trebles from George Jones and Colin Boardman, while Werneth A’s Darryl Meredith, Pete Morris and Doug Hill completed a ruthless 10-0 whitewash over Hyde YMCA A.
At the top of the second division, Honeywell C had a good 9-1 win over Droylsden with maximums for Barrie Royle and Peter Buckley.
Uppermill A had an 8-2 win over Honeywell’s D team with a treble for Mark Simpson.
Mike Pellowe and Richard Hinchcliffe scored maximums for Werneth D in a hard-fought 8-2 win over Hollinwood F, for whom John Foster and George Marrow replied.
There was a tight 5-5 draw at Pennine against Hollinwood E, were Steve Mather and John Robertson’s two wins were matched by Paul King and Callum Jones.
Hollinwood D maintained their promotion challenge with a great 9-1 win at home over Unision A. There were undefeated performances from Andy McNabb and John Flowers.
Coldhurst A also maintained their challenge with a 7-3 defeat of Hollinwood C with Paul Howarth undefeated.
An improving Saddleworth B team won 6-4 at home to Honeywell E in division three with a tremendous maximum for Alex Griffiths and two for Peter Skuse.
Gilders went down 7-3 at home to the high-flying Deaf Club A team for whom Ian Cockcroft was unbeaten.
Grotton B just prevailed 6-4 against St Saviours A with a maximum from Alf Barker and two from Steve Smith. Brian Huskinson won two for the Saints.
Top of the table Unison C won 9-1 at home to Coldhurst B thanks to trebles from Jim Bollard and Alan Meltzer.
In the fourth division, Our Lady’s A drew 5-5 at home to Werneth F for whom Colin Pellowe was undefeated. Peter Chappell won two for the home team.
Our Lady’s B went down 7-3 to Glodwick Academy for whom Zac Rajput and Abdul Gufar were unbeaten.
Top of the table Werneth E extended their lead with a 10-0 win over an improving but inexperienced Our Lady’s C team.
