Mossley stretch unbeaten record

MOSSLEY extended their unbeaten run to an impressive nine matches following Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Leigh Genesis in UniBond League first division north.
There was disappointment, however, as the Lilywhites were left to reflect on two points dropped as Genesis played three-quarters of the match with 10 men.
Manager Chris Willcock had hoped his side would capitalise on their numerical advantage after Genesis had Andy Heald sent off for violent conduct. He kicked out at Nick Allen midway through the opening period.
Willcock said: “I would have probably have settled for a point beforehand but in the circumstances it was disappointing not to win.”
Mossley took the lead on the stroke of half time with a spectacular long-range shot from right wing-back Ben Richardson.
Central-defender Graham Kay had earlier seen a looping header hit the crossbar in what was a dour opening half.
Leigh equalised just short of the hour mark. Mossley ’keeper Peter Collinge could only parry a shot from Tom Ince and Chris Thompson slotted home the rebound from inside the six-yard box.
Mossley staged a grandstand finish in which Richardson’s goalbound shot was miraculously kept out by the outstretched leg of ’keeper Stephen Drench, while substitute Nathan Neequaye struck an upright from six yards when it seemed easier to score.
The teams meet again tomorrow when Seel Park plays host to a second-round UniBond League Challenge Cup tie.
OLDHAM Boro have now gone six games without a win after they were beaten 2-1 at AFC Blackpool in division one of the Vodkat North-West Counties League.
But Tony Mills’ side could have been two goals to the good at the end of a mediocre first half. Firstly, Ryan Baldwin saw his drive pushed round a post and James Curley shot straight at the ’keeper.
The second period wasn’t much better, but it was Blackpool who nosed in front through Mziscroft’s close-range effort, and they doubled their lead when an unmarked Ashall headed home.
Boro did pull a goal back late on through Tom Hughes, but it was too little too late.
