Diggle are sitting pretty!

DIGGLE have created their own piece of history with all three of the club’s teams at the top of their respective divisions in the Huddersfield and District League.

Pride of place goes to the the first XI, who lead division one after a 4-0 win over Meltham Athletic, while Diggle’s reserve side and ‘A’ team are also riding high.

Diggle produced their best display of the season so far to brush aside Meltham.

The points were in the bag by half-time thanks to the blossoming front-line partnership of Chris Moore (two) and Jeff Whittaker.

Diggle continued to dominate and Moore completed his second hat-trick of the season just after the hour mark.

The reserves were in FA Junior Cup action, and they had no troubling in defeating Netherton 5-1.

And to complete a fine afternoon’s work for the club, who recently celebrated their 50th anniversary at Diggle Band Club, the ‘A’ team overcame Slaithwaite United 2-1 in reserve division two.

Uppermill threw away the chance of reaching round two of the FA Challenge Cup.

They held 2-0 and 4-2 leads against division two outfit Honley, only to lose 5-3 on penalties.

Matt Jackson and Dave Taylor scored before the 90 minutes were up, while young hopeful Danny Gartside and Darren Scanlan restored ’Mill’s two-goal advantage in extra time.

But defensive lapses brought Honley level and it was the home side who held their nerve in the spot-kick shoot-out.

Heyside reserves came from behind to beat Heywood Irish Centre 9-2 in the FA Junior Cup.

Terrace Barker bagged a hat-trick, Chris Taylor and James Taylor scored two apiece and James Davis got the other.
