OLDHAM enjoyed a one-two-three in Sunday’s JR open on a consistent Margaret Street length of the Ashton Canal.

Lennie Fosdyke, the winner, had a 4lb 8oz net of skimmers, perch and roach, with pinkie and punch tight up against a bush on the far bank.

Local maggot dealer Dave Brierley, the runner-up, had two decent skimmers and some roach and perch for a 3lb 12oz bag on punch and caster.

And another Oldham rod, Derek Bowers, was third-best. He used his favourite squatt tactics for 3lb 8oz of roach, perch and odd skimmer.

Failsworth angler Ken Power made a blistering start to the JR open on the Higher Lane length of the Macclesfield Canal.

He had four decent skimmers, the best being 1lb 8oz, for a match-winning 3lb 12oz catch on the long pole and bread punch.

Simon Walton weighed in a level 3lb of skimmers, also on bread punch, for second place.

Fosdyke, who has enjoyed a great deal of success on the canal circuit for many years, was third with 2lb 10oz of roach, perch and ruffe.

THE first match in the Border Anglers winter series on Hollingrove Dam was won by Dave White.

He had a small carp, skimmers and roach on pole-fished maggot for 5lb 1oz.

Lee Denton, in second, boasted an almost identical catch, with carp, skimmers and roach on maggot adding up to 4lb 5oz.

Steve Hamer, who has a good record on this water, was third with 3lb 7oz of small roach and skimmers on pole and maggot.

DAVE Ireland topped a closely-fought Monarch AC Winter League match on Monarch Lodge.

Opting for maggot, he had ide and skimmers for a 14lb 1oz total.

Maggot up in the water accounted for Andy Chadwick’s net of ide and roach for 13lb 10oz.

Organiser Dean Pickering, who was third, had small carp and roach using caster on the deck for 10lb 10oz, while Malc Kershaw was fourth with pellet-fished shallow tempting 8lb 1oz of ide.

JOHN Keeley was the clear-cut winner of the Cranberry AC match on Bradshaw number two pool.

He weighed in 19lb of bream, skimmers and carp on the tip with caster, pellet and maggot on the hook.

Eddie Sutton had to settle for second place with a 10lb bag which was almost entirely made up of a 9lb carp.

There was a tie for third place. Rod Illing and Jim Wild recorded 7lb nets, with silvers attracted by maggot and caster.
